Tightwad Tip #2: Traveling to the burbs
Sometimes it pays to travel to the suburbs when making larger purchases. To give you an example I live in Minneapolis where our local sales tax is 7.775%, if I travel to neighboring Richfield or Bloomington the sales tax is 7.275%. A difference of 1/2%. I know 1/2% doesn't sound like much but take this example a $1000 television or computer in Minneapolis would cost about $1077 but just a short distance away I would pay $1072. A difference of $5 is not much I know. However, I could buy a pound of nice coffee with that $5 dollars.
